It looks like this is the end of the line as far as our website
is concerned. At the end of this billing cycle the site will
be closing down. The name "rcfctoronto.ca" will still be
reserved for a while in case we ever get a field again. All
there is left now is HOPE. I have kept this site going for 24
years. Now it is time to say Goodbye.

Give us your commitment to be a part of setting up the new field.
The time is rapidly approaching for the club to make final arrangements for our new field. We absolutely need confirmation of our membership numbers to ensure we are financially capable to begin field preparation now. This will ensure an early start to our season next spring.

Gentlemen, as a follow-up to the first on site meeting at our
potential new field, we want to remind everyone we will be holding
another on site meeting on Saturday, August 27 at 12:00 noon. We had
great attendance and received positive feedback from members
attending the first meeting, and we are hopeful for even better
participation this weekend. Please note, the property owner has
agreed to allow us to hold a meeting on site on the scheduled date
only.
The key to securing this new field location and getting an early
start on field development this fall requires we secure a minimum of
$15,000.00 from committed members in the form of 2023 membership
dues before any lease is signed with the owner of the tree farm. To
confirm your commitment, please submit your 2023 membership
application (posted on our website) with payment (EMT preferred) to
membership@rcfctoronto.ca before September 9, 2022. Should any
member wish to pay membership dues beyond the 2023 season, please
indicate this on your membership form and include the corresponding
membership dues with your payment (i.e. Open Member renewing for 2
years would be $400). The earlier we sign a lease, the sooner field
development activities can begin this fall to ensure we have an
early start for next year’s flying season. The deadline for
confirming your commitment and securing the required funds is
September 9, 2022.
We look forward to seeing even more members at the proposed field
location this Saturday. Below is a Google Maps link of the location,
and attached is a map with directions to the site. Also attached
above are some aerial photos of the site and a concept plan for the
new field.

Gentlemen, further to our recent update indicating we were awaiting confirmation regarding a promising new field development, we are excited to inform everyone that we have received approval to develop a new flying field at the tree farm location in Durham Region. We are inviting all past and present members to visit the proposed field location on one of two scheduled dates. The first on site meeting will be Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 6:00pm, followed by a second on site meeting on Saturday, August 27 at 12:00 noon. This will give everyone an opportunity to see the location and assess it’s potential as RCFCT’s new flying field. Please note, the property owner has agreed to allow us to hold meetings on site on the scheduled dates only.
The key to securing this new field location will involve a financial commitment on the part of past and present members. The Club must secure a minimum of $15,000.00 from committed members in the form of 2023 membership dues before any lease is signed with the owner of the tree farm. Should any member wish to pay membership dues beyond the 2023 season, please contact an Executive member to discuss in more detail. The earlier we sign a lease, the sooner field development activities can begin this fall to ensure we have an early start for next year’s flying season. The deadline for securing these funds is September 9, 2022. As mentioned in the last update, the Club currently has $10,000.00 available for field development. Securing a minimum of $15,000.00 in 2023 membership dues will ensure we can cover our Club’s operating expenses for next season and allow us to invest in further field development. Once we better understand our Club’s expenses going forward, we are hopeful that membership dues can be lowered.
We look forward to seeing you all at the proposed field location. Below is a Google Maps link of the location, and attached is a map with directions to the site. Also attached above are some aerial photos of the site and a concept plan for the new field. We ask that everyone please attend on one of the scheduled meeting dates. Please note, the property owner has agreed to allow us to hold meetings on site on the scheduled dates only.

Hello Members,
As we enter the last few months of our flying season, we wanted to update you on a few Club matters and advise you of a promising development related to our field search.
Many of you may be wondering what happened to the membership dues you paid this season. One half of the dues was provided to the Club you chose to fly at (Humber, 905 Squadron or Whitby) as per our agreement with those clubs. Aside from paying some routine expenses such as insurance and storage fee for our Club container, the other half of funds collected remains in our account and would be available to use should we secure a new field. At this time, available Club funds total approximately $10,000.00.
Our Field Search Committee has searched extensively using many methods to reach potential landowners willing to lease to our Club, including:
• Placing advertisements on Kijiji and farming websites
• Delivering flyers to mailboxes and knocking on doors
• Making cold calls to businesses and commercial farming operations
• Communicating with politicians and their staff
• Communicating with the Province and various land developers
• Applying to Toronto Region Conservation Authority for a potential site in Pickering
One thing that became apparent through this field search process is that local farmers don’t own farmland anymore, they lease it from land developers. In most cases these leases prohibit subleasing the land and limit use to agricultural only. We did however manage to find a tree farmer in Durham Region who is interested in leasing land to our Club. This Landowner showed us multiple locations on his various tree farm properties, but one area in particular appears to meet most of our criteria for a flying field. All the Executive have visited the site and concur that a flying field could be situated on the available 2.0 acre parcel. We have had numerous discussions with the tree farmer regarding cost and conditions we would have to meet to enter into a lease agreement. The only hurdle remaining at this point is to have a conversation with the neighboring farmer on the westerly side of the property whose house is relatively close to our proposed field location. The tree farmer has committed to speak to the neighbor on our behalf regarding our proposed field development to ensure there is no misunderstanding with regard to noise and club operating hours should we move forward with a new field at this site. We expect to hear back from the tree farmer very soon regarding the outcome of that discussion. If all goes well, we would like to hold a general club meeting at the proposed site so everyone can see the location. At that time, we will be looking for direction and commitment from members to move ahead with development of a new flying field at this site.
We will update everyone once we have more information.
Thanks,
Your 2022 Executive Team

Field Clean-up Day:
Hello Members, we are planning a Field Clean-up Day at our former field on the Bigioni farm on Saturday, April 30, 2022 starting at 9:00am. We also plan to hold a brief, General Club meeting after the work is done. We request that as many members as possible show up to assist with the dismantling of our tent structure, removal of fencing, flag poles and other items. We will be storing everything we can in our container. What won’t fit in the container will be piled neatly beside the container. As everyone knows many hands make light work, so please come out to help.
We are reaching out to everyone for assistance with our field search. Your field search committee continues to follow up on leads and identify potential sites, but ultimately, the search for a new field rests with all members. We are looking for any fresh ideas or leads that anyone can provide. If anyone has a strategy or idea that could help generate potential sites, please contact your Vice President, Howard Goodman howardg@rogers.com 416-918-5832.
Thanks,Your 2022 Executive Team

Hello Members, we wanted to update you on the status of our current club flying field at 9769 Reesor Road. At our February 22, 2022 virtual, general meeting, we advised that local Markham Councillor, Andrew Keyes, had agreed to speak to Parks Canada on our behalf in an appeal to allow us to remain in our current location. The councillor met with Parks Canada on Friday, March 4, 2022, but regrettably, he was unable to convince Parks Canada to change their decision. Based on this outcome, our current club field remains permanently closed and we are no longer permitted to fly at 9769 Reesor Road. We have had discussions with the resident farmer at 9769 Reesor Road, and he has agreed to allow our storage container to remain in its current location until we secure a new flying field. In the near future, we will be organizing a field clean-up day to pack up all our club property and place in the storage container. We hope to have many members attend the field on the scheduled clean-up day to help with this task.
Our Field Search Committee continues to look for potential sites for a new club flying field. The local Markham councillor mentioned above has offered to help us by identifying City-owned land that is currently leased to farmers and may be suitable for our purposes. We remain optimistic that a new club flying field site will be secured.

Hello Members, this is an update from your 2022 Executive Team. We had a very successful virtual Club meeting on Tuesday, December 14th. 23 participants joined the meeting and we were treated to a very interesting discussion by Dan Tulloch from TEMAC on the restoration of prototype planes developed and built by Unionville Hobby Supply founder, Joe Murray. We hope you can join us for our next virtual Club meeting to be held in January, 2022 (date to be confirmed).
Please be advised that our flying field is still closed at this time. We had agreed to terms with the resident farmer to reopen the field for the full 2022 season (January 1 to December 31. 2022), but Parks Canada has now raised concerns with our flying activity on the property. We have commenced dialogue with Parks Canada to better understand their concerns and hopefully reach agreement to allow flying to continue for the remaining two seasons of our 5 year lease agreement. We will keep you updated as discussions with Parks Canada progress.
As a Club that is constantly under pressure to relocate due to advancing urban development and other factors, there is a need to form a Field Search Committee to seek out viable locations for a flying field. Howard Goodman, Vice President, is seeking volunteers to assist in this field search. Anyone interested in joining this committee should contact Howard.
Thank you and stay safe,Your 2022 Executive Team

Hello Members, I am pleased to inform you the Executive Team that was proposed to lead our Club in 2022 was confirmed at our AGM held Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Thank you to all Members who supported the proposed 2022 Executive, both in person and through proxy voting. I would also like to thank my fellow 2021 Executive Team members for their hard work and dedication over the past year. Despite the challenges we faced securing our field early in 2021, and delays starting our season due to Covid 19, we still managed to enjoy a fun and successful flying season.
Your 2022 Executive Team consists of:President Jeff Johnston
Vice President Howard Goodman
Secretary Stuart Cork
Treasurer Terence Adams
Wings Officer Roger Villacorte
Field Officer Mark Dubblestein
Membership Officer T.J. Hwang
Communication/Website Paul Battenberg
I am confident I have assembled a very dedicated and hard-working Executive Team to support me in my role as President. We are looking forward to the challenge of assuming our roles, and we will be meeting in the near future to commence planning for the 2022 flying season. One of our primary goals will be to maintain regular communication with Members through email and other means. We would like to re-establish regular Club meetings where there is less emphasis on business and more focus on aspects of our hobby that Members find interesting. There is potential to return to in-person meetings, but if it means we get more participation through online meetings, then we may utilize the online format for the time being. One of the benefits of online meetings is that we can host guest speakers who would otherwise not be able to attend our meetings. If our membership meetings are going to be successful, it will require the participation and contribution of all members. Look for more communication from your 2022 Executive Team in the near future.
Thanks,Jeff Johnston, RCFCT President
Video of the Year
Former club member David Summers took some videos at Port Perry quite a few years ago. I thought I would resurrect a few to share on our site. Here is another one from August 2006. Click here or on the picture to see what a lot of fun it is to fly from water. It might take a half a minute to download the video. The guys in the picture are former club members Tony Camilleri and Ted Snook.
